Open Music Studies is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing scholarship in music studies with a distinctive focus on Asia. The journal provides an academic platform for researchers, educators, musicians, artists, and practitioners to examine the diverse musical traditions, practices, pedagogies, technologies, and cultural transformations that shape musical life across Asian societies.

Open Music Studies recognizes Asia as a region of extraordinary musical diversity, encompassing long-established traditions, contemporary practices, local and Indigenous knowledge, intercultural encounters, rapidly changing creative industries, and emerging forms of digital musical expression. The journal therefore encourages scholarship that explores music not only as an artistic practice, but also as a form of education, cultural knowledge, social interaction, identity, heritage, creativity, and technological innovation.
